Welcome to Home Educating in West Sussex

Hi Everyone,

This is the first post on the new HEWS blog. Fed up with the labrynith that facebook has become I hope to use this to:
  • Store a diary of regular events
  • Hold information about exam centres
  • Be a place to share resources where they can be found again.
  • To record some standard info for newbies on Local Authority involvment and contact
My ultimate hope is that it be superseeded by a website (preferably before too long) In the meantime we can use this blog so that potential members who do not wish to join facebook can stay in touch and we can advertise to new members. If you would like to write a post about you and your family and your approach or to advertise any tution or similar please leave a comment.

ps - My blogger name is KP Nuts because that was my nick name at school - You used to be able to buy these nuts made by a company called KP - I wonder if you still can!

Yes you can still get 'KP Nuts'. The letters 'KP' stand for Katie Pybus and Kenyon Produce. I wondering if I'll be able to post here. Let's give it a go!

That's great - it seems everyone who is following so far can comment.

Of course atm it is public unlike HEWS which is secret.

I have lots of ideas for pages and I know you do to - first I think calender of regular events and items for sale

It would be great if a few families could add a paragraph (can be anonymous) about what they do and so on - nice for new people to see.

I should add that I think my nickname would have been nuts whatever my initials - the KP was just a bonus!!

We HE our soon-to-be 15 year old and have done so for the past 3.5 years. Amidst all the horror of peoples' general reactions when we took A out of school was 'what about exams -you'll have to send him back to school for those ??' As he was 11 at the time, it wasn't an immediate concern ! A has since passed 3 GCSEs early as a HE student-no mean achievement for a child who struggles with dyslexia.

We have only lived in West Sussex for the past 2 years but have found the HE community to be warm and welcoming. It is a lively group with many organised activities and regular meet ups for children of all ages-and for the parents too !

A has weekly maths and science lessons from a tutor but other than that we go with the flow. We often do 'school book work' for a few hours in the morning but are just as likely to head off for a walk in the country with our cameras or take the train up to London if the fancy takes us. The best part about Home Education for us is the sheer flexibilty and the opportunities it affords for quality family time. We have never regretted our decision to HE-only wish we had made it sooner.

Hi everyone - really appreciate you leaving your info here and trying to comment - even though the blog is still totally under construction several new families have found us via it already so that is great.

I'd love to do a page to show our diversity. If you could email me a paragraph or so about family and approach (anonymously if you prefer) I will post them as a single post.

:)
