June 2017

There is so much happening in West Sussex. An hour from London and easy for the beach. A great place to be a home educator as there are so many of us. More than 250 of us are known to the local authority and there are probably a few more than that.

We have the Titchfield exam centre nearby on the county border as well as EtudEO, ActivEO and Rackham offering both structured lessons and informal meet ups.

Football Club might be taking a break for Summer but we've Marwell visits, swimming lessons,  Rock Climbing in Crawley, beach days, Nerf Club, and all kinds of other events happening currently posted on our facebook group. If you are organising something in West Sussex for the month of June please post a link in the comments.

Last year we went hunting for truffles and had 3 Japan Days!

In addition to fortnightly rock climbing in Crawley, there's a Forest School in Angmering, organised beach cleans and over the county border Home Educators can jump at Flip Out Portsmouth at a massively discounted rate. There are also upcoming visits to the WWT and other local attractions. Many home educators say there's actually too much to do!

June is one of the most glorious months to live and be a home educator in West Sussex. The weather can be lovely and the schools are not on holiday leaving the beaches and parks relatively empty. The long days mean evening events can appeal to families who find an extra adult handy.

Ultimately I aim to list details of events on either this blog or a similar one and as it will contain addresses and phone numbers you'll need to register your email to see it - there could be a supporting WhatsApp group for last minute changes due to weather etc

How many home educated children are there in West Sussex?

Well, the short answer is that no one really knows!

Here is a link to edyourself with a map which suggests anywhere between about 250 and 500.

We think that about 3oo of these children are in our facebook group. If you would like to join please email us using the address on the main blog page.

Oh, you think home educators stay home!

This is what one of the 120 families from our local group is up to this year.

We have a blog ring which will give you a flavour for the diversity in the group.

I hope to have reviews of trips and days out to publish on the blog soon.

Welcome to Home Educating in West Sussex

Hi Everyone,

This is the first post on the new HEWS blog. Fed up with the labrynith that facebook has become I hope to use this to:
  • Store a diary of regular events
  • Hold information about exam centres
  • Be a place to share resources where they can be found again.
  • To record some standard info for newbies on Local Authority involvment and contact
My ultimate hope is that it be superseeded by a website (preferably before too long) In the meantime we can use this blog so that potential members who do not wish to join facebook can stay in touch and we can advertise to new members. If you would like to write a post about you and your family and your approach or to advertise any tution or similar please leave a comment.
